American Mummy is a low budget indie horror film about a bunch of archaeologist students who discover an Aztec mummy residing inside a cave system in the desert. However, said mummy is possessed by the 'lord of the dead', a demonic entity that begins to possess each of the students in turn. After the initial set up it soon transpires that this is a straight forward EVIL DEAD copy featuring scenes of gruesome murder and dismemberment and demon-possessed victims hungry for living prey. It's a grisly story indeed, shockingly so in places, and fast paced with it. Despite the multiple shortcomings, this is much better than I was expecting it to be.
A group of university students in the New Mexico desert unearth an ancient mummy, on which one of the students performs a secret, primeval blood ritual. This awakens the death-hungry spirit of the Aztec Lord Tezcalipoca, intent on finishing his centuries-old reign of terror. Soon, the mummy's curse possesses the students' souls, turning them against each other in a bid to spread his evil to the entire world. —Wild Eye Releasing
