"Super Troopers" made me laugh a lot. I had to force myself just to get halfway through this snoozer before giving up. Maybe it's funny if you get -- or, better, are -- drunk; as a non-drinker, I just didn't find much of this material amusing. I will say that, for a comedy, it was done reasonably well, so there's that. Maybe ST2 will be better.

A feel-good comedy with lots of laughs
I don't know what it is about "Beerfest" that makes me love it so. Could it be that it takes me back to when I saw it for the first time in my teens? I don't think so, I thought "Super Troopers" was hilarious and I didn't like it as much when I re-watched it a couple of days ago. Could it be the story? Not that either, the story is pretty typical, run-of-the-mill good guys vs bad guys. I think what makes me love "Beerfest" so much is that the characters are great, the writing is hysterical, and it appeals to that inner party animal inside of me. While I've never drunk beer like these guys in my life, the movie's all about having fun and partying. There's no drama, suspense, terror, or explosions, it's just a feel-good comedy. This is only the second movie by Broken Lizard I've seen, and so far it's my favorite. So many jokes, so many memorable scenes, so many laughs, and so much fun. I highly recommend this, it might be dumb, but it's still a great ride.
Also, note to self: Watch "Das Boot" as soon as you can.
Not very funny, but not as bad as I thought
It's a competitive beer drinking version of Dodgeball, with more outrageous, over-the-top elements, more slapstick, but fewer laughs.
A film like this, a no-holds-barred, free-for-all has a lot of creative freedom to do and say anything, but unfortunately it goes for the lowest common denominator. Lines like "fluid dynamics and quantum bubblenautics" are not funny, pissing in a shoe is not funny, extracting semen from a frog, random German jokes, a beer called Schnitzengiggles, grandma being a whore, etc.
A lot of the jokes were already old, but my issue was that the delivery of these jokes was weak. The laughs were few and far between and they rarely had parts where there's a string of laughs, unless you count a fight scene with a fat man and a fat woman (both around 40 years old) as comedy.
Some of the jokes fell totally flat - during a team huddle, one of team USA thinks that they are the bad guys and the Germans are the good guys, only to be corrected by the other team members. There's also a German person says "it's like taking black walnut candy from the baby" and someone calling him "Deutschbag." Absurdist - yes. Entertaining, okay. Funny? Not really.
