Made during the Covid restrictions Dead for a Dollar made it's North American debut at the Calgary International Film Festival. Not a heavy western as it's title suggests but it did honour the code of the wild Wild West and paid homage however so subtlety to the spaghetti westerns of the past with a hint of Tarantino .It was refreshing to have a plethora actors of many different races represented in a western . Waltz , Defoe. Brosnahan Pratt and the rest of the supporting cast did an admirable job with the script . Made in 31 days on a limited budget it felt much bigger than it was . A Canadian Production to boot.
Plot summary
The film follows a famed bounty hunter who runs into his sworn enemy, a professional gambler and outlaw that he had sent to prison years before.

Dead for a Dollar ... and then some
A bad film in so many ways
Dead for a dollar is a hilarously awful film, so much so that it seems to be a parody of the western genre itself. Script craters are juxtaposed with awkward dialogue, a dated view of feminism and racism, and underwhelming performances by usually phenomenal actors. All peppered with technical errors visible even by those who detain no special knowledge in this field. It is difficult to find even one aspect of the film to compliment, perhaps only the fact that unlike many of today's releases, it has the decency to stay under two hours in length. In any case, it remains a light and entertaining film to watch for all its errors, as a lesson in how a film usually should not be made.
