I spent a little time reading other people's reviews of this movie and I was honestly shocked that I seem to be one of few who liked it. Actually as the summary line above shows, I loved it. I laughed and cried! I didn't like the scene where the doctor pounded on Oscars chest twice and he miraculously had a pulse, but then it didn't matter anymore once he died. It just didn't seem as important. Once again, Morgan Freeman gives a wonderful performance. I adored his relationship with his wife; yes, even the faults. I thought the actress who played Chloe did a great job as well. The only character in this movie that I didn't connect with was Bradley, but if he wasn't in it, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy Diana!!!

Synopsis
A group of friends living in suburban Oregon come into contact with a sensual free spirit of Chloe, who changes their outlook on life in the most unexpected of ways. As college professor and writer Harry sits quietly in the coffee shop of his tight-knit Oregon community, the local residents all around him all become swept up in the magical mischief of love. Coffee shop owner Bradley has a bad habit of looking for love in all the wrong places, and his relationship with wife Kathryn is a prime example of that penchant. Meanwhile, frazzled real estate agent Diana becomes ensnared in a taboo affair with a married man David, lovely newcomer Chloe attempts the formidable task of romancing troubled soul Oscar, and Harry's own wife, Esther, affectionately tries to get through to her husband as he wrestles with the pain of losing a loved one.

Love, love, love
tragedy of love
Harry Stevenson (Morgan Freeman) is a professor in Portland dealing with his son Aaron's death along with wife Esther (Jane Alexander). He befriends coffee house owner Bradley Smith (Greg Kinnear). Bradley has been married to Kathryn (Selma Blair) for six years. He's clueless to her falling in love with Jenny (Stana Katic) two feet away. He tries to force a dog on cynophobic Kathryn and she leaves him. Oscar (Toby Hemingway) works in Bradley's café. Chloe (Alexa Davalos) is a new hire. They quickly fall in love. Oscar is a recovering addict living under his abusive father Bat (Fred Ward). The lovers move in together struggling to make ends meet. Bradley falls for real estate agent Diana (Radha Mitchell) but she is in a secret affair with married David Watson (Billy Burke).
I don't like Bradley. I find him annoying. He's playing the smiling fool. He's clueless and pathetic. His stunt with the dog is particularly annoying. That's some passive aggressive stuff. He is suppose to be lovable but I find him off-putting. I appreciate the other parts of the movie and the general theme of tragedy of love. Morgan Freeman is once again playing the wise black man although it does work well with Chloe. This is a nice try.
For the love of God, do not watch this movie
This movie does not have a cohesive plot or point. Half of the time I was wondering whether or not one of the 30+ characters were going to die. This movie fails to movie in the worst ways possible. Morgan Freeman does a great job at being a creepy old man who ends the movie by asking one of the main character's to come be his "little girl". He also watched a couple have sex in a football stadium for longer than necessary. I mean he could have acted a little more surprised or even shocked. Instead he just sits there and watches them for an inordinate amount of time. Oh wait, I forgot that this movie has no sense of time whatsoever.
