One Night In Dublin

This is a tribute concert for Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, who by this time had been dead for 19 years; it featured four of the band's guitarists with Moore taking the limelight, which he shared willingly with the others. Also present on stage were bass player Jonathan Noyce, and the man at the back, Brian Downey, the only drummer Thin Lizzy ever had.

After beginning with "Walking By Myself" there was the title track of the "Jailbreak" album; "Don't Believe A Word", a Lynott song, this is the slow version which Moore recorded for "Back On The Streets", but it is not so slow at the end.

After this, Brian Robertson came on and they played "Emerald" also from"Jailbreak", "Still In Love With You", then Robertson was replaced by Scott Gorham for "Black Rose". Moore muffed the words for "Cowboy Song" slightly, but who cares? They finished with the classic "The Boys Are Back In Town", and after the inevitable encore, Gorham was replaced by Thin Lizzy's first guitarist Eric Bell for "Whiskey In The Jar", with Bell sharing the vocals as well; this classic was extended with audience participation. Then Moore played an extended "Parisienne Walkways", an enigmatic song, the true meaning of which is impossible to decipher without knowing something about the personal life of its deceased co-writer. To end, Moore played "Happy Birthday", and in case you wondered why, Lynott would have been 56 years old today had he managed to beat the addiction which took his life at just 36.

Alas, Moore too has now gone to join his bandmate at the great gig in the sky, albeit at the somewhat older age of 58, yet still far too soon, and four years ago, difficult though that is to believe. Perhaps 15 years from now we will see a similar tribute concert on his birthday?

What more can be said? If you are a Thin Lizzy fan, this one is a must; if you are not, then it's about time you were.
