The original is definitely better, but that doesn't make this a bad movie. Also, there are two different versions of this movie (both from 2001 and with the same actors) but I can only find one on IMDb.
Even though many scenes are exactly the same, for instance: when Jean Reno and Christian Clavier arrive in the present, they wreck a wine red 4x4 on the parking of the museum that they call a "Red Dragon" except, in the English version, the radio is playing the song "Macarena".
One of the versions is spoken in french and starts at an inauguration of a medieval saloon and ends with Jean Reno kissing Christina Applegate in a castle window (I like this version better), the other version is spoken in English and begins in the medieval era and ends in "the present" with Christian Clavier and Tara Reid entering Las Vegas on a purple Chrysler Prowler, this last one is the one I consider an "american remake" from the original 1993 french movie Les Visiteurs, still, both are great for many good laughs.
I find it curious the I couldn't find any information about existing more than a version of this movie, anywhere....

Not nearly as bad as I thought
A not great late effort from John Hughes
With a plot not that dissimilar to that of 'Enchanted' years later, this was a French film that did well that got adapted for a US audience.
It also has a screenplay part credited to the legend that is John Hughes of 'Breakfast Club' fame.
Not that you'd know it sadly. This film isn't actually that funny, or as clever as it likes to think it is, wasting a good performance from Jean Reno in the progress. Think of obvious jokes that you could imagine happening in this film about knights somehow winding up in the US, and you'll most likely see them.
There is a clear sense that John Hughes was phoning this one in, sadly.
A wrong timeline, but a hilarious adventure!
I remember seeing the French version of this film on the television when I was a kid, but don't recall much other than two men from the medieval in the streets of the modern world. Somehow I found this, and after some research I chose this version to watch which I thought easy to understand, as well as for the reason some updates were made in this. Well, I know nothing can beat the original, but for those haven't seen the original, this is not a bad one. Quite an enjoyable film with a simple theme and a simple adventure.
Seems a very familiar concept, but surely a unique product. Jean Reno was brilliant and so his sidekick and other supporting characters. Top notch jokes, felt like I had some loud laughs after a long time. Of course, there are some flaws, but minors, like relocating from Europe to the US since it is a Hollywood production. It is a time travel theme in fantasy. There's no time machine, instead a wizard behind the adventure through the time.
A perfect family film. It's not about prediction, since watching the first scene you would know what follows it and how it all ends. So you're relieved from guessing stuff and can sit back relaxedly and enjoy it as much you can. It is your average film, but if you're seeking a good comedy, then it is surely above that. There are thousands of masterpiece comedies, this is not one of them, though must see from this genre.
