A Tale Of Two Movies

I've never seen a film of Anita Mui's when she was still with us, so there is an air of poignancy, especially in a film like this. The story of two ladies, Michele (Anita Mui) and Miki (Junna Risa), meet on a tour bus in France and bond. This part of the film is great, they seem to have an affection for each other (not sexually). There is an interesting twist to this tale, in that Michele's husband has a mistress, who turns out to be, of course, Miki. How they play off this revelation is good, especially the betrayal in Michele's eyes. Both Ms. Mui and Ms. Risa are very pretty, and the cinematography of this film lends to the atmosphere, painting it gray, yellow etc. In the middle of the film, Miki gets abducted and Michele goes to the police. She is hell bent on finding her, and enlists help from a cab driver (this is in Morocco). I wondered how Moroccans felt watching this, their country is not looked at in a favorable light. I didn't expect the depth of this drama. I wanted to know the end way before it happened. Not a great film, it still held my interest throughout. RIP Ms. Anita Mui. You are really someone special.

Riveting (at least after the 1st half)

Having read the last reviewer's comments ("Beautiful movie. . . "), I felt a need to write this review. 'Beautiful' shouldn't be the word to describe this movie, although I would concede that the movie was RIVETING, especially the 2nd half. The story starts out portraying a developing relationship between 2 women despairing over the men in their lives. As the plot unfolds, the viewer realizes the women are involved with the SAME man. From thence it would seem like the plot would be straightforward but then the movie takes a sharp turn which I can only describe as DEPRAVED, like a cross between "Silence of the Lambs" and "Seven" . Even now, a week later, I can't stop thinking about it. This movie would best be described as well acted but, depressing, dark, depraved and thoroughly disturbing. And, just when you think everything is going to work out in the end, there's a final twist and NO HAPPY ENDING. Don't see this movie if you're the type of person afraid to walk down a lonely, dark street by yourself. And, if you do see it, be prepared to feel DISTURBED at the end.

Powerful Drama...Worth Watching

I watched this because I am a big Anita Mui fan, and at first I didn't want to watch it because of the reviews. I was definitely prepared for the "Genre" switch halfway through the film but I do believe it's definitely a drama. I loved the beginning, but not so much the ending.

The background shots are beautiful and Anita Mui I thought acted beautifully. It definitely painted a negative image of tourism...but I would compare this film more with Taken.

If you are an Anita Mui fan, she speaks a lot of English here which is great & most of the scenes are of her.

I bought this movie for $4.00 and I don't think i'm going to be watching it over and over again, but I think it's a good movie to add to my collection for the price.

I would recommend this if you want to watch something different in a melancholy tone. The tone is very gloomy / foggy throughout the film. And of course if you are an Anita Mui fan or Risa Junna fan because that means you'd like anything they're in which is my case. :)
