Another alright zombie outbreak, I mean, vampire.

Stake Land (2010) is a nice horror flick, though kinda bland.

It tries to go on a new modern take, where horror movies don't need to be explained, they just need to happen. I miss the old times where horror movies tried to make sense, to make it seem real, even trying to explain it scientifically.

Stake Land is alright. It's dark, grim. Nothing spooky. And don't tell me those are vampires; they look more like zombies to me, but I guess zombies are an overused concept, so, hey, who am I to judge!

The characters are likeable. Acting is fine. Plot is OK.

Fine movie to watch when you're looking for nothing.

Turned off 30 minutes into it

After 30 minutes, I decided I had better things to do then keep hoping this one would get better.

for those 30 minutes it was -bad acting, all around from different characters, intermittently. -bad effects (ninja "whooshes" from kicks etc, vampires that looked like people wearing face paint, physical combat that looked like something from Capt. Kirk era star trek, -uninteresting lines. Just never anything interesting. Nothing particularly bad, just everything is the bare minimum, and wallowing in mediocrity.

If it got better after 30 minutes in, then I missed out. That's a risk I'll take. It was that bad.

My score is based the quality of the first 30 minutes of the movie.
