What a stupid and pretentious documentary! The whole film from the very beginning to the end just looked so false and so fake to disguised as a documentary. It's so phony to disguise as another kind of Road genre film, not on vehicle or motorbike but on horse. A young guy originated from Brazil who illegally migrated to Canada with his Brazilian parents, then became a naturalized Canadian. A not quite smart, not quite tough young man, who kept endangering his horses and during the fake journey, he cried a lot. There's actually not too much to tell, just blabbering, regrets, crying. There's no interesting stories to tell either. He looked more like a bad actor instead of the person who actually rode from Canada to Brazil, he was just an actor under the guidance of a director and production team to shoot a would-be documentary. There's a written script for him to follow, to act, all the frames shot by the camera man was arranged, there were many times the scripts and the director needed him to face the camera to cry, the scripts had his horses wounded due to his carelessness and overlooks. The production team and he himself didn't even know each border of the country he and they got to pass got regulations. When he, the production team and the horses were forced to stop or detained at a country's border custom villages and towns, all he could do was facing the camera to cry his heart out so frustrated.

This so-called documentary is such a boring waste-of-time crap. We didn't see or learn anything from it, since there's actually nothing to see at all.

A Fantastic Documentary! I LOVED it! I don't want to give anything away, but it sure did have me on the edge of my seat at times. Whoa! Fantastic! Just Wow!

Filipe Leite - who shot most of this footage - leaves behind his adoptive home of Canada to travel from Calgary all the way to Brazil riding his two horses Frenchie and Bruiser. He's following a trail inspired by Aimé Tschiffely's 1925 equestrian journey that will take him eight years to travel as he adds up 15,000 plus miles across twelve countries.

The travels were supposed to be shorter before the trail inspires Fellipe to go even further. Along the way, he deals with bad weather, corrupt border patrols and horrific weather conditions, all so that he can make the journey to his destination and then head back home, alone on the trail.

Filipe is a world-renowned Long Rider, an award-winning journalist and a best-selling author of Long Ride Home and Long Ride to the End of the World. He's also the youngest person in the world to cross the Americas on horseback, an accomplishment celebrated by two statues of Fellipe being displayed in his native Brazil.

The Long Rider was directed by Sean Cisterna, who also made Blood Creek, War of the Dead and Kiss and Cry. This is an interesting idea for a film and quite the story. Trust me, I don't think I could do what Fellipe has done.
